Rough Terrain Crane Rental in Casper, WY

Rough terrain (RT) cranes ride on large off-road tires with four-wheel drive and steering, which suits unpaved construction sites, well pads, and yards where a road crane would struggle.

Casper Crane Connect is an independent referral service, not a crane company. We pass your request to local operators, who quote and perform the work themselves.

Where RT cranes fit

Rough terrain cranes are built for the job site rather than the highway. They have a compact carrier, a single cab, and big tires that handle dirt, gravel, and uneven ground. Because they are generally not meant for highway travel, they are usually delivered on a trailer and often stay on site for days or weeks.

  • Steel erection and precast placement on new commercial or industrial builds
  • Ongoing material handling on larger construction projects
  • Pipe, tank, and equipment work at industrial and energy sites
  • Pads and laydown yards that are graded but not paved

RT crane vs. all-terrain crane

An all-terrain mobile crane can drive on the highway to the job and set up the same day, which is efficient for short lifts. An RT crane needs transport but can move around a rough site and pick-and-carry within its chart limits. For long-duration site work, an RT is often the more practical machine. For very heavy lifts, a crawler crane may be the better fit.

Ground prep still matters

Off-road capability does not remove the need for firm, level footing during lifts. Expect the operator to ask about soil conditions, slopes, excavations, and buried utilities near outrigger locations, and to recommend mats or cribbing where needed.

Common questions

Can a rough terrain crane drive to my site from Casper?

RT cranes are generally not designed for highway travel, so they are usually hauled to the site on a trailer. Transport adds to cost and planning, which is one reason RT cranes are most common for multi-day or multi-week work.

Are rough terrain cranes rented bare or with an operator?

Both arrangements exist. Longer-term RT rentals are sometimes rented bare to contractors with their own qualified, certified operators, while shorter jobs are usually operated. Ask the operator which options they offer.

What information helps size an RT crane?

The heaviest pick and its radius, the maximum lift height, how long the crane is needed, and the ground conditions on site.
